This service is available via USSD (short) code. You need to register for mobile banking or internet banking with your branch to get the short code to allow you to move money from your bank account into your M-PESA account conveniently.
Before you can transfer money from your bank account to M-Pesa, ensure you have:
1. Active Accounts
- An active M-Pesa account registered with Safaricom
- An active bank account with a Kenyan bank
- Your 4-digit M-Pesa PIN
- Bank account details and credentials
2. Mobile/Internet Banking Registration
You need to register for mobile banking or internet banking with your branch to get the short code to allow you move money from your bank account into your M-PESA account conveniently.
This typically includes:
- Mobile banking registration with your bank
- Internet banking access (for some methods)
- Knowledge of your bank's USSD codes and Paybill numbers
General Steps on how to transfer Money from You Bank to M-Pesa Account
Simply dial the USSD number and follow the instructions (this menu is different for different banks)
- Dial your bank's specific USSD code
- Select "Send Money" or "Transfer" option from the menu
- Choose "To M-Pesa" or similar option
- Enter the recipient's M-Pesa phone number (often your own number)
- Input the amount you wish to transfer
- Confirm the transaction details
- Authorize the transfer using your mobile banking PIN
- Wait for confirmation SMS from both your bank and M-Pesa
